Is there a yarn shop in Oak Harbor?

Unfortunately, no. However, Coupeville - a tiny town south of Oak Harbor - has Sea Bre's Yarn. https://www.seabresyarn.com/ Coupeville is also super cute, and they filmed the outdoor downtown scenes of Practical Magic there!

Okay but where do I actually go?

Two shops I will personally vouch for: Acorn Street in Seattle, which I haunted in undergrad and is at least partially responsible for making me the knitter I am today, and Wildfibers in Mt. Vernon, which is between Seattle and Whidbey Island. I accept no responsibility for what you spend at either. Wildfibers: https://www.wildfibers.net/ Acorn: https://www.acornstreet.com/

What about the rest of Seattle?

Seattle is yarn-y! However, I moved away in 2015 and cannot speak to current vibes, atmospheres, or whether anyone will be weird to you. The internet tells me the following shops exist: So Much Yarn, Stitches, Tea Cozy Yarn Shop, Needles and Hooks, Seattle Yarn, and Yarn Dragon. Go forth. Report back.

What about Tricoter?

It has a devoted following and the yarn selection is genuinely exceptional. It also has a reputation, which you may already know about, and the Yelp reviews will confirm if you're curious. I will say that as an undergraduate student I was very aware of exactly how much money I did not have while there. See previous question for all other options.

So - Spincycle Yarns has a store front right?

Yes. It's in downtown Bellingham, which is about an hour from Oak Harbor and an hour and a half from Seattle if traffic behaves — in the opposite direction from Seattle, just so we're clear. And yes I know you're going anyway. I see you. I support you. Budget accordingly and I am not responsible for any decision making. Bellingham is also approximately 30 minutes from the Canadian border, and British Columbia is lovely if you want to make a real trip of it.
